The Book Of Azaria has these words that explain what it means to be in a 21st century world. "This living without peace is the fruit of having made materialism the law of his life. If man were spiritual, in his affections and thoughts, he would not tremble like this."
Many people want to be in the movement and on the other edge, we leave our true selves vulnerable. Sometimes we wish we were in the movement because our hearts tell us that "that's the right thing to do" even when the movement is wrong. We don't get to choose; other people choose for us and we just live. H. Jackson Brown Jr. in his book P.S. I Love You said that
"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do." This means we are not doing what needs to be done. I don't want to wait for twenty years to look at my life and weigh in on what I should have done. I want to look at my days and say I was not in a movement. Time to stop running with a crowd that has a name and start living.
You don't have to live "your" life trying to fit into society. Society can be too demanding these days. There's exaltation of material things. They amount to something but it shouldn't be ALL. Discovering yourself is not an easy road. But it's what we have to take if we want to die happily. like Neil Gaiman said, If you’re making mistakes it means you’re out there doing something. Life shouldnt be about showing off. We need to shine a light on our demons for everybody to see. The darkness will only eat us up and when that happens, living other people's lives won't save us.
Life should not be lived in the papers. It's better when lived in the blank white spaces at the edges of print. Living in the gaps between the stories gives us more freedom.
There's a difference between fighting your demons and trying to fit into society. My life has been like that of a bear that's shackled in chains at birth to dance in the circus. The bear thinks people love it (and they actually do) but it doesn't know itself. Life in the lights can be destructive to the soul.
The first girl I dated left because she found out that I wasn't the humorous character that was cast in her life by Director Facebook. There's limited time for us to go out and actually meet people. video calling has never been okay. There's something deeper that happens when you meet a person physically. Sometimes the results may not be good because our minds are already infected. We expect them to be perfect (when we're not) because of the air we breath, and whatever the screen writers want us to believe.
The second girl that I dated left because I demanded something from her that she wasn't ready for. I didn't learn from my first relationship. I was still that person who just wanted to have sex because society has okayed premarital sex. Sex is supposed to be spiritual and when we do it just to satisfy our bodily desires; it means we're not doing enough to get away from "political correctness".
It's time to do whatever it takes and take those steps of being who are. It's all that we need in our lives.
